This “Zoey 101” star saved a baby from a tragic car crash
It was a truly harrowing night for Zoey 101 star Matthew Underwood (aka character Logan Reese), who witnessed a tragic car crash last week and ended up rescuing a baby from the back seat. The actor was driving in Port St. Lucie, Florida Thursday night when he noticed a car driving slowly ahead of him. Suddenly, it swerved across six lanes and slammed into a tree — and that’s when Underwood sprang into action.
Thinking the driver may have had a heart attack, Underwood pulled over and ran to the wrecked car. That’s when he saw two unconscious adults, and heard a baby crying in the back seat.
"I heard a baby cry and that’s when I really stopped caring about anything that was going on there and I immediately ran around the other side of the car and looked for the baby," said Underwood in an interview with the local NBC station.

He found a 4-month-old baby boy — unharmed — in an unsecured car seat in the back of the vehicle, next to an unconscious man with a needle in his arm. A female passenger, also with a needle in her arm, was passed out behind the wheel. Both have been arrested on child neglect and drug charges.
According to a press release from the St. Lucie Police Department, both passengers had used heroin that night, leading to the tragic episode. The child is currently in the care of another family member, while his parents remain in hospital.
“I hope they can get rehabilitated,” said Underwood. “I hope they can wake up and want their child back so much, want their life together, that they’ll get clean.”
