YouTube star Zoella has the perfect response to those who say she’s making up her mental health issues
One of the hardest parts of living with a mental illness like anxiety is dealing with the stigma around it. People say insensitive things because they think they know about mental health issues, but they don’t really have a clue. YouTube star Zoella has spoken up about her struggle with anxiety before, and she’s back again to encourage people to think twice before they judge someone else’s mental illness.
In October, Zoella shared on her blog that she wrestled with some serious anxiety when her YouTube channel started to gain momentum. She said life started to move quickly for her and she was really feeling the pressure.
"Although I never really talked in depth about my anxiety and the rise of my channel at the time, it was something that was extremely challenging to balance.
However, there are some people out there who think Zoella is faking her mental illness. Some were even saying she was faking her struggle with anxiety so her number of followers would skyrocket even more. Zoella isn’t putting up with that nonsense, though. She’s calling these people downright cyberbullies, and she says she won’t stand for it.
"Cyberbullying is an issue I feel passionate about addressing. Unfortunately, it’s an experience I know about all too well, having gone through it myself in recent years."
With over 11 million followers on YouTube, it’s clear that Zoella is killing it, regardless of the cyberbullies out there who think it’s their right to comment on her mental health. She’s sending a positive message to people everywhere that your mental illness is your business, and nobody else’s.
