Zoë Kravitz’s new pixie cut has Catwoman lovers fangirling out

Zoë Kravitz has rocked a pixie cut many times in her career as an actor and style icon, but we can’t say her cropped cuts have ever had a direct impact on us comic book nerds—until now! Yesterday, November 26th, Kravitz posted a pic of her newest pixie cut on Instagram. Immediately, it had Batman fans wondering if the big chop is in preparation for her upcoming role as Catwoman.

The Big Little Lies star swapped out the long locs she’s been rocking lately (and which have her twinning with her equally gorgeous mom, Lisa Bonet) for her pixie. However, she didn’t give much in the way of an explanation for her style switch-up with her simple “hair ✂️” caption.

But considering that production for The Batman is slated to start in January, we’d have to side with the comic book fans who see some meaning in the chop.

Speculating-but-probably-correct fans are also excited that Selina Kyle/Catwoman’s forthcoming screen adaptation may be aesthetically truer to the original comics. Eartha Kitt, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Pfeiffer all wore their hair long for their Catwoman portrayals, but the OG character has short hair in the comics.

Even beyond Kravitz’s hair, there’s a lot to be excited about for the upcoming Batman installment. Plot details are scant, but director Matt Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter that his take will be “a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale.” And it seems like he’s stacked his cast accordingly. Expert brooder Robert Pattinson will take on the title role, while Paul Dano will star as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon. Colin Farrell, another expert brooder, is reportedly in talks to portray The Penguin.

And do we even have to talk about how perfectly cast Zoë Kravitz is as Catwoman? Get us our tickets now, please.

The Batman will be released on June 25, 2021. Until then, we’ll be keeping our eye out for pics of Kravitz in that kickass Catwoman suit.
