Zoe Kravitz went out on a first date, and went home with a giant turtle

No one is safe from having a disastrous date, not even celebrities! At least that’s what we learned when Zoe Kravitz recounted a recent first date that ended up with her having a giant turtle. But, like most bad dates, at least she also got a great story out of it to tell at dinner parties or – even better — to share on The Tonight Show.

During Zoe’s recent appearance on the show, she retold the story of that date.

In addition to being hilarious, the anecdote is pretty relatable to anyone struggling in the dating scene.

Basically, the Zoe Kravitz went out on a first date with a guy who seemed totally normal. According to her story, they talked about normal things like movies, music and the guy’s new pet turtle, Gary. The date was perfectly fine and she didn’t think much of it. She got a phone call the next day, which she thought was the guy asking her out on date number two.

Instead, the guy asked her to take care of his turtle, Gary.

He was headed out of town for work and needed someone to watch Gary. Zoe agreed. But Gary wasn’t an average turtle. As soon as the guy showed up for the drop off, she discovered that he was actually a 30 lb African tortoise. And that’s not exactly a creature you can easily keep indoors.

Fast forward a month later and the guy still hadn’t returned for Gary.

When she finally does reconnect with him, she discovers that his place doesn’t have the proper living conditions for her new beloved pet. So she formally announces Gary would stay under her care, which he did the rest of the summer.

While Zoe is not currently dating the guy who left his pet with her, she explained that the entire neighborhood fell in love with Gary. By the end of the summer, she donated Gary to a turtle sanctuary where he is now thriving.

Hopefully, Zoe’s future dates will go a little better than this one.
