Zayn Malik’s new single got leaked and it’s very un-1D
Yesterday, rapper Mic Righteous released a track he worked on with ex-One Direction member Zayn Malik and producer Naughty Boy. 1D fans had mixed feelings about the single, which is a cover of Atlanta rap duo Rae Sremmurd’s “No Type” (Warning: explicit lyrics ahead).
First and foremost, this song is a pretty solid indication that Zayn isn’t returning to the British boy band (no matter how much #ZaynIsComingBack trends on Twitter). Secondly, “No Type” departs from the positive, “that’s what makes you beautiful” pop music that fans are used to hearing from Zayn. Heavy with cursing, “No Type” isn’t a love song. It’s just different. If this is the kind of music that Zayn feels called to make, then it makes sense that he wanted to leave One Direction, even if we are still mourning his absence.
Unfortunately, we won’t get to hear “No Type” for a while. The song’s producer, Naughty Boy requested that the track be removed from the Internet, claiming that Mic Righteous stole the unfinished song from a studio hard drive. The two collaborators got into an all out Twitter brawl over the release, but much of the back and forth has since been deleted.
Mic Righteous took to Facebook, sharing his side of the story. The British rapper said that Zayn’s record label will not allow the ex-1D star to publish any music for two years after quitting One Direction. This information hasn’t been confirmed, but we hope it’s not true! We want to hear what Zayn has to sing.
Guess we’ll just have to be patient. Luckily, Zayn’s unicorn hair makes for a good distraction.
