Zayn Malik said he had a “very negative outlook” on life before Gigi Hadid, and now we want her as a best friend/guru, too
Back in March 2018, Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik broke up on the world’s stage. They released deeply emotional and carefully worded statements that their two-year relationship had come to an end. Barely a month later, the couple was spotted kissing, and on June 6th, 2018 the two shared a cuddly Instagram Story. Other than that one Instagram Story, they’ve both been playing it cool by uploading Instagrams from the same location while avoiding tagging one another. Whatever their relationship is today (Zayn says they’re “friends” — more on that later), the former One Directioner seems to credit Gigi as his personal guru and the person who turned his life around.
"I had a very negative outlook on things," Zayn revealed in a new GQ interview. "That might have been adolescence or testosterone or whatever the fuck was running through my body at the time. She's helped me to look at things from a positive angle."
He also said that she helps him with his career, is good with dates, and joked that “she doesn’t handle my finances yet,” before adding: “we’ll get to that eventually.”
In the GQ interview, Zayn self-described himself as a bit of a lone-wolf, an isolationist, and said he spends most of his time on his new farm in rural Pennsylvania, which just so happens to be next to Gigi’s mother Yolanda Hadid’s farm. He revealed that he and Gigi have a horse, named Cool, and that Gigi rides and he mostly watches.
“I looked like a complete idiot and she looked like a complete professional,” Zayn joked about his attempts to ride Cool.
It sounds like Gigi and the Hadid family have had a positive impact on Zayn’s life, though if you ask Zayn, the former couple are just friends.
"We're still really good friends, and we're still in contact. No bad blood," he said, while adding, "We're adults. We don't need to put a label on it, make it something for people's expectations."
Whether they are friends, lovers, or Gigi is just a positive light in Zayn’s life, one thing is very clear to Zayn: “I’m really thankful that I met her.”
