Zack Morris just dropped some serious ‘Saved By The Bell’ secrets

TIME OUT!

Last night, Mark-Paul Gosselaar – still most famous for portraying your favorite late-’80s/early-’90s TV bad boy and mine, Zack Morris from Saved by the Bellstopped by The Tonight Show to talk to Jimmy Fallon and spill some tidbits about the show.

Among the information Gosselaar revealed on the show is that he’s not a natural blonde. So for the entirety of Bell’s four-year run (five if you count Saved by the Bell: The College Years, and I do), his naturally dark-brown hair had to be dyed to its signature blond.

“It was colored by Clairol,” Gosselaar joked. “That’s actually not a box you can check at the DMV.”

On top of that, the original style of Zack’s hair – the shaved sides with the voluminous top – was inspired in part by Vanilla Ice.

He also goes on to share that the cast and crew were always worried they were going to be canceled – and that they totally borrowed the whole “Time out!” freeze-frame bit from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. As someone who still hasn’t seen that movie (I know, I know), I never would’ve picked up on that!

This isn’t the first time Gosselaar (who somehow looks even better now than he did during his Saved by the Bell days) has graced us with his presence on Fallon’s show, either. In 2009, he brought his infamous oversized phone with him to the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon set to bring Zack back to life for a bit. And last night, Gosselaar and Fallon reminisced about the experience, discussing how young they looked then and how Gosselaar’s too-tight wig made him look like he’d gotten Botox. Hah!

But Fallon’s love didn’t stop there. Earlier this year, Gosselaar joined Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Tiffani Thiessen, and Mr. Belding himself, Dennis Haskins, to recreate a scene right inside the halls of Bayside High School, melting our collective preteen hearts more than 20 years after Bell went off the air.

We’ll take anecdotes from Gosselaar over an unauthorized biopic any day. Check out a clip from last night’s Tonight Show interview below, and bring a tissue for your drool – maybe two if you’re also someone who crushes on Jimmy. Not that I’m advising from experience or anything.
