Zac Efron’s next film role is NOT one we would ever expect for Troy Bolton

Zac Efron has been killing it in comedy movies lately. And his next film will involve dying – just not from laughter. Zac Efron will portray notorious serial killer Ted Bundy in the upcoming film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
Efron won’t just star in the film. His production company, Ninjas Runnin’ Wild, will help produce it.
The film’s story revolves around the life of one of the most notorious serial killers in America, and it will be told from the perspective of Bundy’s real life long-time girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer. We have to admit that it will be hard to wrap our minds around High School Musical‘s dreamboat Troy Bolton transforming into such an evil creature.
Of course, Efron has come a long way since his HSM days. He’s proven time and time again that he’s a versatile performer who can nail any role in basically any genre.
One of the film’s producers, Nicolas Chartier, told Deadline he has been impressed with Efron for a long time. And he’s looking forward to getting to finally work with him on this intense-sounding project. And another producer, Michael Costigan, sang the former Disney star’s praises.
"Zac is perfect casting, as he can play both the depth and the charm that this guy had in equal measures," Costigan explained. "Which allowed him to manipulate these women in such a terrifying way."
It’s unnerving to think that the hunky actor will channel his charm into becoming Ted Bundy. But we have no doubt he’ll be great at it.
The movie begins filming in October, and the powerhouse creative team already has an amazing director, Joe Berlinger. Berlinger earned an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary, Features in 2012 for Paradise 3: Purgatory. His background is mostly in documentaries. So it will be fascinating to see how he uses that knowledge and those skills to make this Ted Bundy movie feel eerily realistic.
To see a lighter side of Efron, catch him in the new Baywatch movie, which premieres May 25.
