Zac Efron is thiiiiiiiis close to doing another musical
Troy Bolton? Is that you? For anyone who grew up on the sweet melodies of High School Musical’s “Bet On It,” we have some potentially really great news about the future of Zac Efron’s musical prowess. According to Variety, Efron is close to being named Hugh Jackman’s costar in the P.T. Barnum biopic, The Greatest Showman on Earth. And this basically sums up the euphoria we feel:
Here’s what we know about this forthcoming circus focused movie: First off, it’s obviously about the man who founded the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Second off, Hugh Jackman is in. He’s doin’ it and set to play Barnum. Third, it’s being written by Jenny Bicks, who wrote a whole lot of Sex and the City episodes, as well as the Amanda Bynes classic What a Girl Wants. Michael Gracey is set to direct, and according to IMDB its his first directing credit.
Variety also mentioned the importance of Efron joining the project, “The project is a major priority for the studio given its relationship with Jackman and the lengths it has taken to get the film off the ground. Should Efron’s deal go through, it would serve to solidify the project and give it a shot of momentum.”
Efron and Jackman have actually shared the stage before, at the Oscars back in 2009. Here’s some visual evidence:
The times we’ve heard Zac sing in his post-HSM days are few and far between (like this truly sensational clip of him singing with T. Swift): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
And for that reason, we are SO excited about the prospects of this movie. Zac, we really want to hear you sing again! Please make our dreams come true? And infuse them with Hugh Jackman too.
