Here’s what we know so far about the YouTube shooter
A shooting was reported at YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno, California on Tuesday, April 3rd. So far, not much is known about the shooter, but different reports are circulating online — and we want to make sure you have the right information about the YouTube shooter.
YouTube’s HQ is still in an “active shooter” situation, meaning the shooter or shooters may still be on the loose. Some local news outlets have reported that at least one of the shooters is a woman. San Bruno police said during a press conference that one woman, believed to be a shooter, is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was found inside the building.
The police say they don’t know whether or not the deceased is a former employee, and that they’re currently sweeping the building to look for any additional shooters. They have so far removed four victims from the building whose conditions are currently unknown.
Statistically, 98% of mass shooters are men, so if this female victim is indeed a shooter, her crime will be an incredibly rare one. Most recently, a woman took part in a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California in December 2015 with her husband. The majority of mass shooters are white men.

YouTube employees tweeted Tuesday about the shooting, noting multiple gunshots fired and saying they’d barricaded themselves in offices or evacuated the building.
Active shooter at YouTube HQ. Heard shots and saw people running while at my desk. Now barricaded inside a room with coworkers.

I am behind another building with colleagues. There are helicopters. There are lots of police nearby. I don’t know if the shooter has been found. If you hear they’ve been found, tell me. I’m safe for now, but don’t feel safe until they’ve been found.
