This “Younger” star’s views on sexuality are so refreshing

According to Nico Tortorella, actor on the TV show Younger, sexuality isn’t so cut and dry. At a recent New York City Pride week event, hosted by American Express and the Infatuation blog, Tortorella said he views his own sexuality with “fluidity.” Awesome.

I’ve never been in any sort of closet … I was never really in the house,” the Illinois native jokes. “I think it’s one thing to hide … and it’s one thing to come out of the closet in a public statement … But I’ve always done me and never been shy … and have been vocal about it.”

The 27-year-old actor is known for his role on Younger and he plays a character  (Josh) whose love interest is a woman (Sutton Foster’s Liza Miller). On the show, Josh seems to be presented as heterosexual, but in real life, Tortorella isn’t so quick to label himself any specific way when it comes to love and sexuality. He may be currently dating a woman, but he says he’s always been attracted to both sexes.

It’s just a fluidity,” he says. “We’re all kind of moving into this one situation.”

In January of this year, in an interview with Cosmopolitan, he opened up about modern-day relationships and his experiences dating Sara Paxton from 2009 to 2012.

I think that an open relationship or a polyamorous relationship or an understanding of sorts is acceptable in this day and age,” he said frankly. “Relationships and people are my hobby of sorts. I love exchanging energy with people and getting to know people and falling in and out of love.”

We’re totally loving his honesty and progressive ways of thinking about sexuality. He’s not alone, either. Stars like Miley Cyrus and Lily-Rose Depp have come forward to talk about the same issues of gender fluidity, and we think it can only do good for our world. Keep it up, Nico!
