Before Ryan Reynolds was Green Lantern and Deadpool, before we was famous for his cut physique and marriage to Blake Lively, he was just a guy. With bad ’90s style, like the rest of them. And us.

The Canadian teen star quickly catapulted to fame in the U.S. after appearing on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. From there he landed parts in dozens of quintessentially ’90s television series before becoming a staple in mega blockbusters.

Along the way, his style evolved.

But let’s reminisce, with this throwback pic of Ryan Reynolds with a goatee looking nothing like himself.

Until you look at it closely enough that his recognizable features comes into focus, beyond the ’90s facial hair and spiked bed head.

You can kind of see him there, in his eyes.

To the 1999 premiere of Election at the Egyption Theatre in Hollywood, California, he wore a smart ensemble of baggy jeans with a white v-neck t-shirt with blue trim under a blue short-sleeve button up. But the white sneaks really bring it all together.
