42% Of You Would Rather Have Your Pet As a Valentine Over a Person, New Survey Finds
Love life going to the dogs? You're not alone, says new survey.
There’s a plethora of memes and TikTok videos that reflect our undying love for our fur babies, and many that also show how tough it is being single in this day and age —especially if you’ve encountered plenty of “dogs” in your dating life. But those dogs are not of the furry variety.
Now, a new survey conducted by MetLife Pet Insurance shows that most of you are just over it, and you’d rather replace chocolates and flowers with chew toys —and spend the upcoming day of love with your pets. The survey found that 42 percent would rather spend Valentine’s Day with their pets, while a whopping 78 percent of people consider their pet to be their child, and 69 percent love their pets more than they love most people.

So it comes as no surprise that we’d rather scrap Valentine’s Day in favor of dear ‘old loyal and reliable Scrappy.
“Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day – and comes in many forms,” said Brian Jorgensen, Head of Pet Insurance at MetLife. “Our recent MetLife Pet Insurance survey reveals just how special the companionship and connection between pets and their parents are. In fact, nearly one in six respondents said they tell their pet they love them more than they tell their partner!”

Single pet parents were more likely than married pet parents to prefer pet companionship to human interaction (82% to 75%, respectively), and millennials specifically were also more likely than older pet parents to prefer spending their free time with their pooch.
“Every year, Valentine’s Day serves as a loving reminder to spend time with those we care about most. As our survey shows, this includes pets,” Jorgensen explains.
So before you swipe right and settle for second-best, consider spending the day with the one who’s always loving and loyal, no matter what!
