YES: Florence Welch is featured on Lady Gaga’s upcoming album
Lady Gaga’s new single “Perfect Illusion” is a huge change for the artist who built her career off of synth-heavy dance hits. Full of ’80s rip and roar (and especially channeling Bruce Springsteen himself), the song is a new side of Gaga, who’s fresh out of a long-term relationship and ready to let loose. Another woman who knows how to emote the hell out of her singing? Florence Welch — and in a match made in music heaven, the two are teaming up for a duet on Gaga’s upcoming fifth album.
In a radio interview with BBC 1, Gaga gushed on about Welch, whose earth mother pop has much more in common with Gaga’s new sound than, say, Fame Monster cuts. The duet’s name isn’t out, but we have a suspicion that we’ll be hearing a lot of the song once it’s out, given Gaga’s effusive love for both Welch and the music they made together:
High praise from a woman who’s no vocal slouch herself! And as most of Gaga’s other new collaborators are men (Mark Ronson, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, producer Blood, Father John Misty, and Beck), it’s cool to see that she’s also tagging some ladies for her album. We’ve got our ear to the ground for more news about Gaga 5, and until that happens, we’ll stay grooving to “Perfect Illusion.”
