‘The X-Files’ revival: it’s really, probably, totally happening!
Yes, you read that right. According to a report in TVWise, the beloved ’90s sci-fi drama is inching closer and closer to a revival, with talks between Fox and Chris Carter (the genius behind the show) closing in on the final details. Mulder and Scully could be on our TVs soon, you guys! Hooray!
The talks have been taking place for months, but it’s been in the past few weeks that more concrete plans have picked up speed. One of the biggest challenges in getting the whole thing actually going, according to TVWise, is scheduling. Not surprising, as original The X-Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are tearing it up on new shows; Anderson on the BBC’s The Fall and Duchovny in NBC’s Aquarius.
Luckily for us, more X-Files doesn’t mean a new reboot with Anderson-Duchovny lookalikes trying to fill their outsized overcoats. The two stars were always committed to doing more of the show and are onboard to reprise their roles, according to TVWise, possibly as soon as this summer. WOOT.
Although Chris Carter will be returning to write, direct and produce the show, he’s hoping to bring on other original-run writers, who are working on other projects themselves. There is hope that the show could enter production this summer, but it’s all speculation at this point.
We do know that we’ll only be getting a short-run, with The Daily Mail reporting that only six episodes will be ordered by Fox. That hasn’t been confirmed, but the shorter season would allow for closure of key plot-lines left dangling when the show ended in 2002.
There’s still a long way to go before we get to enjoy the show, but we are so excited that things are coming together!
