The one reason every person should write to Santa this year

While most of us are still processing the cozy aftermath of Thanksgiving, I’m already thinking about what I want to write to Santa. That’s because Macy’s is doing something totally awesome this holiday season. For every letter mailed to Santa, Macy’s “Believe” Campaign will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They are fundraising up to $1 million for the organization, which has granted amazing wishes to kids in need.

Here’s the breakdown of Make-A-Wish: Their mission is to “grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.” From wishes as big as saving an entire city ala Batkid, to working in a pickle factory, each Make-a-Wish assignment brings hope to someone who really needs it. While the organization says they grant a wish every 38 minutes on average, they are only able to grant half of all wishes sent to them. This is where “Believe” can make a difference—by providing funding to make more wishes a reality.

The campaign is simple and generous enough that even broke college students *raises hand* can participate. Letters can be delivered in the bright red mailbox at your local Macy’s. And get this. . . if you’re avoiding the crazy Christmas shoppers, you can even email Santa. BTW, the campaign website is absolutely adorable—including printable stationery, writing kits for teachers, and stories that are really moving (and may make you want to ball your eyes out and do something to help).

I may be 21, but hey, I’d write to Santa for this cause any day.
