Ava DuVernay convinced Sade to record a new song for the “Wrinkle In Time” soundtrack

Ava DuVernay’s big screen adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s classic novel, A Wrinkle In Time, looks like it is going to be an astoundingly beautiful film. With a talented director behind the camera and a brilliant cast in front of it, it doesn’t seem like you could fit any more awesomeness into one movie. However, DuVernay recently let the world know more about the film’s soundtrack, and turns out that she had even more greatness in store for us.

DuVernay wrote on Twitter that her plan for the soundtrack was to gather a range of talented, diverse female artists to create the musical side of Meg’s journey throughout the film. While there are many talented artists on the soundtrack, DuVernay was most notably able to get musical superstar Sade to step out of semi-retirement and create an original song for the film called “Flower of the Universe.” DuVernay hasn’t shared a sample of the song yet, but called it “a dream come true.” Knowing Sade’s amazing talent, we believe her.

However, Sade isn’t the only talented singer to bring her talents to the soundtrack for A Wrinkle In Time. Sia is performing a new original song called “Magic,” Meg’s inner journey will be chronicled in a song called “Let Me Live” by Kehlani, and Demi Lovato partnered with DJ Khaled to perform the original song “I Believe,” an upbeat, powerful tune about finding inner strength. Lovato offered her fans a bit of a sampling of the song on Twitter.

One of the most fitting songs that DuVernay teased was the song “Warrior,” performed by Chloe + Halle. The “be a warrior” mantra has been featured all over the marketing for A Wrinkle In Time, and really gets to the heart of the movie — being light in a dark world. DuVernay said “Warrior” speaks to just that very idea and was written “with love” for young people. It’s an inspiring message, and we can’t wait to hear the entire song.

This soundtrack sounds like it is going to be amazing. Powerful original songs paired with the film’s score (written by Game of Thrones‘ composer Ramin Djawadi) make it almost certain that this album will not only be a musical powerhouse — it will be the perfect musical companion to a story that inspires us to be warriors of light in an often dark world. You can get your hands on this soundtrack on the same day A Wrinkle In Time hits theaters, March 9th.
