Mattel is releasing “Wrinkle in Time” Barbie dolls, and they’re just as magical as the IRL ladies
In the not-too-distant past, Barbies weren’t faring so well in the representation department, and definitely weren’t as awesomely diverse as they are now. But seriously, and thankfully, all the new Barbie dolls of different shapes, sizes, and colors are awesome. And now, Mattel is releasing Wrinkle In Time Barbies (!!!), and they’re honestly just as gorgeous as the actual characters and actresses behind them.
As you know, Disney is turning Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved book into a movie, and the production quality already looks awesome. The movie stars Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, and Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who, respectively, and has superstar Ava DuVernay at the helm of the project.
DuVernay took to Twitter to celebrate the new Wrinkle in Time Barbie collection, inspired by the three forces of nature.
DuVernay herself is pretty excited about the incredible-looking dolls, saying, "When Disney makes Barbies of your movie’s characters and you just want to stare at them all day in disbelief because you loved Barbies as a girl but never had any like these," when she shared an image of the dolls on Twitter.

Storm Reid — who plays Meg Murry, a young girl in search of her missing father who receives help from the out-of-this-world trio — also relished in the “incredible, strong, and fierce” dolls.

The dolls — which are intended “for the adult collector,” as Barbie puts it — will be available on February 23rd, and we’re already counting down the days until we can add these to our carts. They’re selling for $50 each, which is kind of a lot for a doll, but people are really happy to have some more representation in Barbie, so you really can’t put a price on that, can you?
starting to become overwhelmed. Between this and Black Panther, I am feeling emotions that I am sadly not use too. Tears of satisfaction flow.
