This extremely emotional video about a “world without moms” will make you cry within seconds

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s a time to celebrate all the many things our moms have done and continue to do for us. However, it’s also a time to talk about maternal mortality rates (that is, the rate of women who die from complications from pregnancy and childbirth), and how they’re unnecessarily high all around the world. And a new campaign seeks to show what a world without moms would look like.

The Rockefeller Foundation announced #WithoutMom, a social media initiative that highlights the often preventable medical complications that women face before, during, and after giving birth, reminding us that 830 women around the world lose their lives every day due to complications from pregnancy and childbirth. In the U.S. alone, three in five of those maternal deaths are preventable, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

In a video clip for the new campaign, public figures like Michelle Obama and Lupita Nyong’o can be seen discussing all the ways their moms supported them, reminding us just how important adequate medical care is for women during and after pregnancy.

Here’s hoping that all preventable deaths become just that—prevented, and that women receive the necessary care they deserve all over the world.
