Words are very important. We use them every day, and we rely on language to convey our thoughts, feelings, ideas, etc. And while most words might feel like they’ve been around forever, our language and lexicon changes over time. In fact, many common words we use all the time were added to our lexicon (and dictionaries) relatively recently.

Our culture constantly changes, as do the words we use to describe it. And with social media and the internet, things change even faster. Just check out this incredible list of words that weren’t in the dictionary until the last fifteen years.

1Adorbs (adj.): Arousing great delight; cute or adorable.
