‘Wonder Woman’ OFFICIALLY has a female director and all is right with this movie

You know that thought where you’re like, “well if I’m good, and kind, and patient” amazing things will happen? Well we were good, and kind, and patient, AND we spoke our mind and amazing things DID happen. As was suggested last month, Warner Brothers has been on the hunt to find a female director to helm the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, which will star Gal Gadot, reprising the role from 2016’s Superman vs. Batman: Dawn of Justice. Of course a female director for a feminist, female anchored superhero movie makes perfect sense and Warner Brothers has finally found the right woman for the job: Michelle MacLaren!

While her name might be unfamiliar at first glance, you have most definitely come across her before. She’s directed a handful of episodes of two of our favorite shows these past few years: Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. She was even nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series at the Emmys in both 2010 and 2013 for two different episodes of Breaking Bad. Plus she’ll be directing the second episode of our newest favorite show, Better Call Saul! If that’s not enough, MacLaren directed episodes of the X-Files and The Walking Dead. I don’t want to say that she’s a perfect choice for the role, but yeah, she’s the perfect choice for it.

It’s also just hugely awesome for female directors. For the past five years women have only directed 4.7% of feature films by major studios. Ridiculous. This MacLaren news is at least a nudge in the right direction.

Keep in mind that MacLaren’s Wonder Woman is still about three years away (its release date? 2017), but there’s no harm in celebrating a little bit early, right? Hopefully, with the resounding praise she’s receiving for landing this important gig, she’ll only pave the way for many more huge, gigantic superhero blockbusters to be directed by ladies — please?
