And the male lead in the new ‘Wonder Woman’ movie is . . .

Are you ready for the answer? Do you desperately need to know who the male lead is in Wonder Woman? Well, drum roll please . . .

It’s Chris Pine!

The actor, best known for his roles in the Star Trek reboot and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, is about to head into the DC Universe. According to The Wrap, Pine just signed on to play Steve Trevor in the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, starring Gal Gadot. His contract also includes “sequel options” since there are going to be at least half a dozen Wonder Woman movies, right? We can dream.

Now, who is Steven Trevor? In the comics, he’s written as Wonder Woman alter-ego Diana Prince’s main squeeze, and he comes with a great gender twist. Instead of Steve racing in to save the day, it’s Wonder Woman who is always saving him. Hopefully that carries over to the movie (please, please, please), making it an action superhero flick chock full of girl power, because it’s about time.

Steven (in the comics) works for A.R.G.U.S.  — which is like, S.H.I.E.L.D., but the DC version. That little nugget could nicely tie all the upcoming DC movies together.

It doesn’t sound like Pine will appear in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is the movie where we’ll first see Wonder Woman. However, we already know that Batman makes the jump to Suicide Squad. And the Suicide Squad is run by Amanda Waller (as played by Viola Davis), who’s in charge of A.R.G.U.S., which Steven might (maybe?) work for, too. Confusing? Don’t worry, it’ll start making sense once we can see these movies with our own eyes.

We’re just going to have to wait two years to see the stand-alone Wonder Woman. It’s set to be released on June 23rd, 2017. Which is 695 days away! We would wait forever for Chris Pine.
