The original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, reveals that a crew member on the show drilled a hole into the wall of her dressing room
Hollywood is changing for the better thanks to the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. Women all over are sharing their stories of sexual harassment in the workplace and in every manner of life, shining a light on toxic issues that have long festered in the shadows. Now that the topics of sexual harassment, assault, and abuse are finally being brought out into the open, justice is being served to those who deserve it. It’s a step forward for women, but hearing everyone’s individual stories of harassment and abuse will never get any easier. It’s a painful process, and now Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman, is sharing her own #MeToo story…and it’s pretty disturbing.
In a lengthy chat with Daily Beast, Carter revealed her account of two separate instances where she suffered sexual harassment at work, because even Wonder Woman has had to suffer through horrifying injustices at the hands of men. One of her stories was pretty vague, because she couldn’t reveal the name of the alleged abuser or what exactly transpired with him, but she says that the abuser is presently facing some form of punishment (although “whatever [the punishment] is, it isn’t enough,” Carter added of the “scumbag”).
"He’s already being done in. There’s no advantage in piling on again," Carter said of the abuser who violated "a lot of people." "And I believe every woman in the Bill Cosby case. I believe [President Trump's accusers], too. Why would they lie? I believe the women."
It took Carter a long time to heal from this harassment and abuse. “And I am probably still,” she said. And while she looked into taking legal action against her alleged abuser, she ultimately found that “[there’s] nothing legally I could add to it, because I looked into it. I wish I could, and if I could I would. And I would talk about it.”
But that’s not the only #MeToo story she had to share, and for this one, she’s sharing specific details. “There was a cameraman who drilled a hole in my dressing room wall on the Warner Brothers lot,” Carter says of her 1970s Wonder Woman television series. “They caught him, fired him, and drummed him out of the business.” Good riddance.
Again, the classy-as-ever Carter wouldn’t name names, but it’s so important that she’s sharing her stories. Thank you for your honesty and bravery, Carter.
