Rejoice, Patty Jenkins is currently writing “Wonder Woman 2”
Hold onto your lassos of truth, Wonder Woman fans. There’s a sequel in the works AND it’s going to be written by Wonder Woman director, and superhero in her own right, Patty Jenkins.
Geoff Johns, president of DC Entertainment, told Variety that he’s working with Jenkins on an outline — and the process is happening pretty much immediately.
"Patty and I are writing the treatment right now," he said. "The goal is to make another great Wonder Woman film. I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one."
Okay, so that’s all a little vague, BUT we do have a small bit of intel from Jenkins herself on where she wants to see Wonder Woman go next.
The director told the Toronto Sun that she can’t wait to bring the superhero stateside.
“I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero," she said. "I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.
No word yet on when filming would actually start for the next film, but if you need to get your Wonder Woman fix ASAP, Gal Gadot is reprising her role in the upcoming Justice League, out November 17th.
And bonus points, she’ll be fighting alongside Batman (Ben Affleck), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa).
So, really, who’s complaining if Jenkins needs just a littttttle more time to write that sequel?
