This woman caught her verbal assault for breastfeeding in public on camera

One of the many reasons we love our go-to one-stop shopping destination Target is that the retailer is such a supportive and welcoming place for women. Case in point, their A+ store policy for breastfeeding mothers:

“Guests may openly breastfeed in our stores or ask where they can go to breastfeed their child, ” the employee handbook states. “When this happens, remember these points: Target’s policy supports breastfeeding in any area of our stores, including our fitting rooms, even if others are waiting.”

Unfortunately, one aggressive male customer did not receive the memo. As the Huffington Post reports, customer Jessica Maher was breastfeeding her baby at her local outlet, complying with both Target’s rules and the laws of the state of Connecticut where she resides, when a man standing nearby began shouting at her for feeding her child in public.

Maher captured this man’s outburst on camera and, real talk, it’s a rough watch. It’s unsettling to hear Maher’s account of the man’s verbal abuse in her Facebook post and to watch the man in question rage on camera over a baby being fed.

There’s just too much hypocrisy here. This mother was just trying to feed her child, just like this man was just trying to feed himself. Everyone’s gotta eat, and it’s just plain old human decency to let people around you grub in peace. Also, and yes, this is kind of pointing out the obvious, but this dude was an baby once too, and the only way he got from infancy to manhood was, one would imagine, by drinking milk/formula/whatever. This guy is losing his mind over this normal, natural, circle of life thing, and we can’t for the life of us figure out why.

Fortunately, shortly after he began his tirade, this tantrum-throwing dude was taken aside by a couple Target employees and a posse of fellow female Target customers came to Maher’s defense.

“You shouldn’t be ashamed of feeding your baby, ” we hear one woman reassuring Maher. “This is a beautiful moment right now. If he doesn’t like it, he can go… This is what you should be doing. Do not be ashamed of this at all.”

Another woman chimes in “With all the horror in the world right now, this is the last thing he needs to be worried about.”

Hear, hear.
