A woman is suing Sephora because she claims a lipstick gave her an STD

2017 has proven itself to be the year of the most bizarre news cycle ever, and at this point, we really thought we’d heard it all. Turns out we were wrong. TMZ is reporting that Sephora is being sued by a woman claiming that a lipstick has given her an STD — specifically, herpes. We’re actually gagging.

To be honest, this isn’t really that much of a stretch. While Sephora does provide spoolies and disposable lipstick wands in a few corners of the store for sampling, they aren’t as visible. And even if they are clearly visible, no one is enforcing that people use them properly, meaning that a whole lot of strangers are sharing a single lipstick. Ick.

TMZ writes that the woman is suing Sephora for not warning customers about the health risks of using their samples.

While we’ve never heard this one before, we have to admit we’re a bit surprised it’s never come up before.

Sephora has been around for a long time now, and people are always sampling products with abandon.

It’s one of the things that makes Sephora so great! That said, it’s probably a good idea to implement some health standards for the sake of their customers.

It’s important to state that herpes is an incredibly common disease and it’s not something people should be ashamed of. While public health hazards should be addressed, herpes is treatable and not a cause for major, lifelong distress. We think it’s possible to look out for our general health while also eliminating the stigma of STDs. What’s your take on this whole debacle?
