This Willy Wonka portrait made of candy is the perfect Gene Wilder tribute
Gene Wilder was a comedic legend, and in the week since his passing we’ve remembered his works, seen touching tributes from celebrities and former costars, and learned that he was the mastermind behind Willy Wonka’s memorable entrance in 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory– in fact, he would only take the role if he were allowed to do it.
It’s fitting, then, that this particular tribute to the late actor depicts him in his most iconic role. It’s even more fitting that that depiction is made out of candy.
Yes, it’s a portrait of Wilder as Wonka, entirely made out of sweets. Because, of course.
According to Nerdist, artist Jason Mecier actually created the portrait in July, only weeks before Wilder passed away due to complications with Alzheimer’s. The portrait is currently on display at Giddy Candy in San Francisco so you can actually see it in person!

All of Mecier’s candy portraits are impressive, but Wilder’s Wonka is definitely our favorite.
