Sorry fellow geeks — William Shatner won’t be appearing on “The Big Bang Theory” anytime soon
Given the sheer number of references to Star Trek in The Big Bang Theory, it’s no surprise that they’ve had a few legendary alums appear on the show, like Leonard Nimoy, George Takai and LeVar Burton (NBD or anything).
But if you’ve been holding out for the legendary William Shatner, aka Captain Kirk, to show up, you’re kinda out of luck… for the moment, anyway. Digital Spy let us know that despite being asked to play a version of himself, the actor wasn’t convinced that the role was the right fit,
"They wanted me to play myself a little obliquely, and they said it would work out, but I needed more assurance on that."
He ultimately declined, and that’s why fans have yet to see him interact with the likes of Trekkie super-fans Sheldon, Howard, Raj, and Leonard.
Shatner went on to explain that he’s definitely open to making an appearance.
"I've had several conversations with the creators, and what they wanted me to do, didn't seem to be exactly right, so I said 'find something that's better'. They may have taken umbrage at that, I'm not sure."
By the sounds of it, Shatner hasn’t totally ruled out the possibility; he’s just looking for the perfect role!
And that’s the silver lining we were looking for.
One day this guest appearance will happen. We refuse to give up hope!
