This is what William H. Macy has to say about Emmy Rossum demanding more money than him on “Shameless,” and we’re literally cheering

As we all know, the fight for women’s equality includes the gender wage gap. It’s a big one, and of course it extends to actors in film and television. So we were thrilled to hear that actress Emmy Rossum challenged  her contract on Shameless, requesting not only a higher salary, but the highest salary on the show to make up for years of underpayment.

So what does costar William H. Macy say to that? He supports her equal pay fight because he’s the best.

"It's about f--king time, don't you think? She works as hard as I do, she deserves everything," Macy told TMZ.

And of course he added a super funny quip at the end, because he’s just that kind of guy:

"The only thing I've got over Emmy Rossum is I'm better looking."

Seriously though, we love how Macy is being vocal about his support for his female costar. He’s absolutely right; she works hard, and deserves to be compensated fairly. Other actresses have recently challenged their contracts as well — Jennifer Lawrence has demanded equal pay and so did Robin Wright Penn on House of Cards. And the fact that Rossum is demanding fair compensation will pave the way for others to follow in her footsteps; especially in television.

You can see the whole clip below, which includes Macy casually referencing the Equal Rights Amendment and its journey in Congress from 1927 to the present (didn’t we say he was the best?).

We’re SO PROUD and SO GRATEFUL to Rossum for taking a risk and speaking up about this incredibly important issue. You go, girl!
