This is the artist who has gotten love from Beyoncé on Instagram

Beyoncé is a busy woman: She’s on the road for the Formation World Tour, promoting her album Lemonade, being a mom to Blue Ivy, and, oh, inspiring people everywhere with her general badass-ery. And yet she still finds time to stop and take in contemporary art. Queen Bey recently visited the William N. Copley retrospective at Menil Collection in Houston, titled “William N. Copley: The World According to CPLY.” She shared a photo on Instagram and on her website posing with some of his works.

Copley, also known as CPLY (and pronounced “see-ply”), was a painter, writer, publisher, and art entrepreneur. His work is commonly classified as Late Surrealist, reaching popularity just before the Pop Art era. Today, Copley’s work can be found in museums like the MoMA, the Whitney Museum, the Stedelijk, and of course the Menil Collection, where Bey was browsing.

And of course no trip to an art museum would be complete without Beyoncé looking like a gorgeous piece of art herself, she was all smiles in this pretty, patterned red dress. (Or coat? Hard to tell.)

Perhaps Bey and Jay are looking to add some of Copley’s work to their personal collection? Or just looking for inspiration? Either way, we really love getting a lesson in art history courtesy of Bey!
