‘Sam & Cat’ Might Get Cancelled Because of a Racy Selfie?

Editor’s Note: Fox News has reported that the network has just confirmed the renewal of Sam & Cat, and the show will return in the fall. Sam & Cat fans, rejoice!

Potential drama on the set of Sam & Cat lately has led to an uncertain future for the show. About to wrap a massive 40-episode first season, the hit Nickelodeon show was up for cancellation with the delay by the network to renew for a second season. With such a strong fan base and successful start, what could possibly stand in the way of Nickelodeon giving their fans what they clearly want?

Many have speculated that the potential axe could be due to star Jennette McCurdy’s recent personal drama, including a set of three racy photos leaked online. Following the photos, Jennette sent out a tweet pointing a finger at the possible leak, her ex-boyfriend and NBA player, Andre Drummond.

Andre has since denied the allegations, assuring fans that he is not the leak, wants nothing to do with it, and “is only focused on basketball.

The drama didn’t stop there though. Jennette’s absence from last week’s Kid’s Choice Awards surprised fans and probably bothered Nickelodeon network executives as well. But because of things going on behind the scenes (most likely due to the leaked photos), Jennette’s decision to skip the show was her way of taking a stand against her ongoing treatment by the network that she found to be unjust. She addressed her fans directly with this explanation:

“A lot of you guys are asking why I didn’t attend the KCAs…. I wish I could explain everything as thoroughly as I would like to, but unfortunately a simpler explanation is all I can write. I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing. I want to thank those of you who have reached out with kind words of support, McCurdians and Arianators alike. No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first. If you have done that, thank you.”

Regardless of the motives of the network, I think we can all agree that Sam & Cat has probably had one of the most dominant starts in TV history. It’s either a show you love (like our Video Queen, Blaire Bercy) because “it’s two girls working hard to make their own money.” Or you hate it because of their questionable lack of intelligence, and their steady stream of sarcasm and ‘tude, towards those around them.

The network hasn’t released any comments on Jennette’s photos, or her recent absence from the KCAs. I guess we’ll have to sit tight and see how this all plays out.

What do you think of this whole thing? Are you excited about the renewal of the show? Let us know in the comments.
