So we can all agree that 50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson’s red carpet style is pretty epic, yes? The 27-year-old actress consistently stuns in high-fashion and on-trend looks, and inspires us to push the boundaries of what constitutes great style.

And while her turn as Anastasia Steele in the 50 Shades franchise catapulted her to stardom, the actress has been appearing on red carpets since the tender age of 9 — so we’re not surprised she’s honed her photo-ready look.

In fact, Johnson first appeared on the red carpet with her A-list mama, Melanie Griffith, at the Los Angeles premiere of Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace in 1999, and we honestly can’t believe how different she looked back then. See for yourselves!

While Johnson is almost unrecognizable in this photo, she’s been sporting some frocks that resemble it quite closely for public appearances recently, proving that for some, great style is something you’re born with.

On Late Night with Seth Myers earlier this month, Dakota rocked a white, full-length crushed velvet gown not unlike the one she wore back in the late ’90s.

Is the similarity not uncanny? This is nothing but a grown-up version of her 9-year-old self’s dress — and we love it!

And keeping with her taste for pastel pink, Dakota wore another gown that reminded us of her early red carpet style to the Los Angeles premiere of 50 Shades Darker onFebruary 2nd, looking utterly glam in Valentino.
