Will Camilla Luddington’s pregnancy be written into “Grey’s Anatomy?”

There’s always a question when an actor in a popular TV show gets pregnant: will their pregnancy get written into the show? Well, we have that exact question for Grey’s Anatomy’s Camilla Luddington, who announced her pregnancy last year.

After joining the popular ABC medical drama in 2012, Camilla Luddington’s character of Jo Wilson has been given some pretty meaty storylines. Her most recent, which revolves around a past abusive relationship and her current boo Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) is currently unfolding. Luddington’s personal life, too, is getting more exciting, as she announced last year she’s expecting her first child! Seriously, look at how cute her baby bump is!

However, we’ve been wondering just how Luddington’s pregnancy will impact her role on Grey’s Anatomy.

Well, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Luddington explained that there were no plans as of right now to write her pregnancy in.

"As of right now, they’re definitely hiding it, she said. "But we have many episodes to go, and we haven’t seen a good 10 or so of them, so who knows? There’s plenty of time to write it in if they feel like they want to write it in."

Of course, Grey’s Anatomy is a dab hand at separating their cast’s pregnancies from their character’s storylines. Indeed, stars like Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Caterina Scorsone (Amelia Shepherd), and  Jessica Capshaw (Arizona Robbins) all “hid” their pregnancies while on the show. However, in season 2 Chandra Wilson, who plays the incredible Dr. Miranda Bailey, had her pregnancy written into the show (remember those two bomb episodes!?).

Camilla Luddington did open up about what we can expect from the winter premiere episode of Grey’s Anatomy, and it sounds like pretty exciting stuff.

The mid-season premiere will focus Dr. Wilson, Dr. Bailey, and Dr. Robbins as they head to a women’s prison to help a 16-year-old inmate.

"We are helping a 16-year-old, who is in for 20-to-life, give birth, she teased. "“What’s really exciting about the episode is seeing those three characters react very differently actually to an environment that is very different also from the hospital. The episode has so many great moments in it — there are moments where we’re laughing, we’re crying, there’s scary moments in the episode."

Luddington also teased that there’ll be some discussion of Alex Karev in the episode, too. Given that we last saw Karev pondering whether he should take a plea deal for assaulting Dr. DeLuca, which would land him in jail for two years, we’re just desperate to find out what will happen. However, Luddington revealed, it seems that we’re going to have to wait until the second episode back to find out his fate.

Grey’s Anatomy and the whole T.G.I.T. lineup returns to ABC on January 26th, a week later than initially planned.
