This feminist movie was snubbed in the Golden Globe noms, and Twitter is pissed
Award season is officially upon us. The nominations for the 76th Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning, December 6th, and— unsurprisingly—there were a number of snubs and surprise nods. Vice, Adam McKay’s Dick Cheney-centered comedy-drama, picked up the most nominations in the film categories with six nominations. Meanwhile, many were surprised to find that the space-race drama First Man starring Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy only picked up a single nod for best actress.
However, perhaps one of the most glaring omissions was the Viola Davis-led heist thriller Widows, which was completely shut out of the awards. While the film struggled at the box office, it has been widely acclaimed by critics and fans. The movie, which follows a group of widows as they pull off a robbery planned by their late husbands, also features a star-studded ensemble, including Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Daniel Kaluuya, Liam Neeson, Elizabeth Debicki, and Robert Duvall
Fans were outraged to see Davis left out of the Golden Globes race, with many also disappointed that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association showed no love for the film’s standouts, Debicki and Kaluuya, as well as director Steve McQueen.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association may have shown Widows no love, but at least we still have the Oscars to right this wrong. The 2019 Golden Globes will be hosted by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh (who is also a nominee for her work in Killing Eve) on January 6th.
