A “Wicked” movie is finally coming, and here’s when

The story about everything that happened before Dorothy was swept up by a tornado and dropped off in Oz is finally happening, and we couldn’t be happier. THANK GOODNESS! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

The hit Broadway music Wicked — which was based on Gregory MaGuire’s book of the same name, revolving around a Wizard of Oz prequel — is finally coming to theaters. The movie adaptation of the show has long been teased, and we’ve long been waiting for it, and now an official date has been set. Mark your calendars: We’re going to Oz in 2019.

Yes, it’s a long time away, but this Wicked movie musical needs to be 110% PERFECT. The original cast featured the likes of Kristin Chenoweth and Adele Dazeem Idina Menzel (Menzel ended up snagging the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical that year), along with giving us dreamboat Fiyero, played by Norbert Leo Butz (now in Netflix’s Bloodline).

It also gave us the sing-out-loud power anthems, “Defying Gravity,” along with other perfect songs like “Popular” and “Dancing Through Life.” Sorry all three of these songs are now stuck in your head!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

The movie adaptation is being directed by Stephen Daldry, with a screenplay from Wicked’s original scribes, Winnie Holzman and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. There’s no cast for the musical as of yet, but now we’ve got three years to dream up the perfect Glinda and Elphaba duo. OH MAN where to even begin?? Whatever ends up happening with the cast, know that after this movie comes out, we will have been changed…for good.
