Happy 2014! We’re only a few days into the year, and if you haven’t heard already it’s cold out there! Who are we kidding? Of course you heard — because all of your Facebook friends can’t stop posting about the weather. At least it beats the rampant oversharing and post-holiday flood of public engagement announcements.

Your Dog Needs to Find Its Sweet Spot
If you’re a dog owner, you know the plight of begging your frisky friend to do its business as quickly as possible on a cold winter night. Your furry best friend twists and turns while sniffing around for the perfect spot to release, and you stand there trying to keep your composure. Now science has found an explanation for Fido’s behavior: dogs prefer to potty based on polarity. Canines seek out a spot that lays along the north-south magnetic axis. Talk about animal magnetism. Woof!
Let’s Bananaboard It Out of Him!
Police forces in India honed in on their inner MacGyvers when it came to retrieving a stolen chain. After apprehending their suspect, authorities learned the man had swallowed the golden links he snatched from a doctor while aboard a commuter train. To retrieve the item, police needed the man to poop. So, they fed him 96 of nature’s laxatives otherwise known as bananas. Sounds like someone got their hands dirty while on assignment.
Hide and Seek Help Later?
Next time you’re playing hide and seek, you might want to skip the laundry room. An 11-year-old girl thought she had victory in her reach when she came up with what she though would be the perfect hiding spot: a top loading washer. As her cousins searched all over the house for her, she decided to give up. Unfortunately, the girl could not get out of the machine because the attached dryer above prevented the lid from opening. When her family’s rescue methods failed, firefighters were called to the scene. She was in the washer for so long that her legs suffered temporary paralysis, but she regained full range of motion shortly after being saved. Hopefully her cousins settled on calling it a draw.

Okay, so it’s not all that new if you follow science related news — or watch The Big Bang Theory. However, it’s certainly impressive and fun to watch. What’s next: humans? Only time will tell…
