This is why you get bacne, according to Kendall Jenner’s dermatologist
Acne sucks. There’s no way around it. And when the acne on your face decides to move down to your body, especially onto your back, it sucks even more. None of us want to deal with summer or swimsuits when we have breakouts all over our shoulders and on our back, commonly known as… bacne. That’s right, this issue is so widespread that it even has its own nickname. You’re definitely not alone, because even reality TV star and model Kendall Jenner is prone to bacne.
So, here’s the deal. The skin on your back has thousands more pores than your face, and when dirt and sweat get trapped in there, zits form. However, they’re hard to reach, and therefore hard to treat. But even if you’ve been doing everything right, like immediately changing out of sweaty gym clothes and using a face wash on your back, there might be a secret culprit to blame: Your hair products.
On Jenner’s website today, she posted a video with her dermatologist, Christie Kidd, who said the way we wash our hair might actually be making our bacne worse.
She said that most of us tend to have a shower routine, which includes shampooing our hair, applying conditioner, and then letting the conditioner sit while we wash our bodies. The problem with this sequence is the last step. When we rise our conditioner out, it slides down onto our backs, and that’s when oil can get trapped.
Kidd suggests instead that you wash your body after you rinse out your conditioner, clipping your hair up as you get down with a loofah. That way no potential breakout-causing oil touches your body after you’ve scrubbed yourself clean. This obviously works, since Kendall Jenner is constantly seen wearing backless dresses and her skin always looks flawless. Time to rethink our shower routines!
