Why Selena And Taylor Are The Best Besties Around

Three cheers for best friends! Isn’t having a BFF the best? They’re the people we call when we’re happy, sad, confused, scared, hungry or when we just want to talk about last night’s episode of Homeland. They’re what makes Bestie Day possible! Zooey, Molls and Sophia have each other. I have my best friend, Kaelan. Tina has Amy. And Selena Gomez has Taylor Swift. Every time I read something new about Selena, my girl crush grows a bit, kind of like the Grinch’s heart. If you like Selena, you’ll love the February issue of NYLON magazine.

It’s endearing when besties have a great story, and Selena and Taylor do not disappoint. They met at a Jonas Brothers concert (my, how far they’ve come) and the rest is history. Selena used to date Nick Jonas, and Taylor used to date Joe. In between then and now, a lot’s changed: TV shows, movies, tours and hit records, not to mention a laundry list of suitors (I’m looking at you, Swift). But one thing that’s stayed the same is the girls’ friendship. Due, in large part, to each of them making an effort and making time for each other.

Those who wear tiaras together, stay together.

The more I learn about Selena, the more I think she would be an awesome BFF. (Don’t worry Kaelan, you’re still my #1.) And not because she’s so pretty and so famous and has the like, cutest clothes! Which, she does. But Selena seems like an amazing BFF because she really cares about her friends. I’m impressed by how she always speaks highly of others, rarely focusing on herself. She’s the kind of friend who is supportive, encouraging and loves unconditionally. Plus, she supports her friends in fun ways like this! Selena is everything you could want in a BFF, and Taylor is the other half of that BFF necklace that brings out these qualities in her.

Says Selena to NYLON, “[Taylor Swift and I] both experienced the same things at the same time. But we’ve never once talked about our industry. She became the person I’d go to for an issue with my family or boyfriend. It’s so hard to trust girls, so I’m lucky to have her.” And she’s lucky to have you, Sel. (Can I call you Sel?)

Me with my best friend Kaelan. We’re special.

I love learning about BFFs. It’s kind of like meeting a couple, except it’s more fun and not as nausea-inducing: you get to find out how they met, how long they’ve been together and why they love each other. But really, being a bestie is a lot like being a boyfriend or girlfriend. You have to make time for your other half, be in tune with their feelings and put them first sometimes. Being a bestie takes work, but when you have a great best friend, it’s worth it. Cheers, Selena and Taylor! Now, go give your BFF a hug/call/extra nice text.
