Here are 21 facts about “A Whole New World” for those of us still obsessed with “Aladdin”

We seriously can’t get enough of Aladdin. It was one of our childhood favorites, and it still stands up today. We dearly hope the rumors about Disney’s live action Aladdin are true. Also, we adore the 1992 film so much, we can’t stop looking for signs of it everywhere. Sometimes, we see them – like the subtle Aladdin nod in the Beauty and the Beast photos. Plus, we’re so excited that Jasmine and Aladdin, our favorite Disney couple, are on Once Upon a Time finally.

So, clearly it’s a great time to be an Aladdin fan. Between potential live action news, OUAT, and the Broadway Aladdin (and its amazing cast), we get plenty of Aladdin and Jasmine in our lives.

Recently, Disney’s Music Notes series gave us EVEN MORE, with an awesome video about the song, “A Whole New World.” The video features 21 facts about the song/film clip, and it’s a great way to learn more tidbits about one of the best Disney songs of all time.

For instance, the song has won a looooot of awards. Written by Alan Menken (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics), it became a huge hit. It won Best Original Song at the 65th Academy Awards, More impressively, though, is that it is the first and only Disney song to win the Grammy for Song of the Year.

Oh, another version of the song called “Aladdin’s Theme” also topped the Billboard Hot 100 on March 6, 1993. The song it beat out? None other than Whitney Houston’s classic, “I Will Always Love You.”

That version also went gold, selling over 600,000 copies. So, obviously, “A Whole New World”/“Aladdin’s Theme” is an impressive song.
