Who is Garbiñe Muguruza? Everyone was talking about this sports champion at the 2018 Oscars
So many screen stars dazzled at the 2018 Oscars. But those famous from film weren’t the only ones to catch red carpet attention. Spanish athlete Garbiñe Muguruza turned heads in a black asymmetrical gown and had many asking, “Who is Garbiñe Muguruza?” For those of you who don’t know, Muguruza is a tennis star with a Wimbledon championship and French Open under her belt. Yeah, she’s kind of a big deal.
According to The Indian Express, Muguruza spent the week leading up to the 90th Academy Awards hanging out with tennis royalty Billie Jean King and actress Emma Stone. Stone played King in the 2017 biopic Battle of the Sexes. The trio hung out at a pre-Oscars event and King shared their “pre-gaming” fun via Twitter.
Muguruza was then joined by Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn on the 2018 Oscars red carpet. Vonn is the most decorated Alpine ski racer in World Cup History and most recently medaled at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. As she shared on Instagram, Muguruza also teamed up with another fellow famous athlete, Kobe Bryant. Bryant took home an Oscar for his short animated film, Dear Basketball.
It was a night of sports stars taking on the film world, and the mashup was glorious.

To the event, the tennis star wore a creation by fellow Spaniard Hannibal Laguna. She matched the simple-yet-stunning look with strappy black heels.
Fans wasted no time in taking to Twitter to compliment Muguruza’s glam looks.

"Hola Oscars red carpet," Muguruza captioned her first Instagram from the event.
After all the glitz and glamour of the weekend, Muguruza will be back to work this week in Palm Springs. Today, March 5th, she’ll compete at the Indian Wells Masters tournament, the first WTA Premier Mandatory event of the season.
Good luck out there on the court, Garbiñe. We’re rooting for you!
