Whitney Port just clapped back at a troll who said her son “looked too much like a girl”

Whitney Port is not letting the trolls get to her, but using their harmful comments to spark important conversation instead. The blogger and The Hills star posted a powerful video to her YouTube channel and Instagram today, February 7th, calling out comments that a commenter made about her 2-year-old son, Sonny, looking “too much like a girl.” Port responded to this judgement by urging all parents to focus on one thing when it comes to raising their kids: Helping them become good people.

Port discusses parenting with her husband Tim Rosenman in her YouTube series, “I Love My Toddler, But…”, and today, she shared a video titled, “I Love My Toddler, But Let’s Talk About His Hair.” Sonny has long, curly hair, and Whitney often posts pictures of him to her Instagram, where his hair is tied up in buns, or simply falling around his face. A person commented on one of these photos, telling Port that Sonny “looked too much like a girl” and “a she” because of his hair, and said that he would likely be upset by these photos when he is older.

Port responded to reading this message perfectly by saying, "What is 'a she' supposed to look like and what is 'a he' supposed to look like? There isn't a 'supposed to' look like anything."

We couldn’t agree with this statement more. Offscreen, Rosenman offered his opinion too, summing up the couple’s outlook (which should be everyone’s outlook, TBH) on how they dress Sonny.

"If he wants to wear a dress, he can wear a fucking dress," Rosenman said. "We're not pushing him toward heterosexuality or homosexuality. He will just be whoever he was born to be, and we're here to support that."

Can we get a “hear, hear”?

Instead of placing importance on what Sonny looks like, Port and Rosenman are choosing to focus on teaching him how to simply be a kind person.

Port noted, “As parents, we have a responsibility to raise good, kind human beings. That is on us.” She also addressed Sonny directly in her Instagram caption, telling him to always be himself, no matter what anyone says (ahem, trolls).

"I know ignoring the trolls is usually the best policy, but sometimes it can spark an important conversation. It's easy to recognize blatant bigotry, but sometimes the same, excuse my language, bullsh*t is hidden behind a thin veil of 'advice' or 'just my opinion.' Someone thought warning me that Sonny 'looked too much like a girl' was something I should be concerned about. She probably thought she was trying to help. In the same way it is our responsibility to do our best to feed, clothe, educate, etc...we should also be raising good people, so the world doesn't become completely populated by jerks. Sonny, if you ever read this one day, please remember to always be yourself no matter what anyone says. I love you."

We applaud Port for standing up to this hate, because these are the types of conversations that young parents need to hear.
