This White Stripes song is being turned into an adorable, mostly red and white children’s book

Jack White, children’s book author? Most modern rock fans know White through Third Man Records, which helped kick off the recent vinyl revival. That, and of course his music under his own name and with the White Stripes. But White is now pivoting into the book world.

White is turning White Blood Cells track “We’re Going To Be Friends” into an adorable, mostly monochromatic children’s book.

I have to say, this looks pretty freaking adorable. The illustrations come courtesy of Elinor Blake, and the story gets a protagonist in the form of Suzy Lee. White didn’t really rewrite the song for the book; those come straight from the lyrics, which are perfect for that children’s adaptation. Like, “Fall is here, / hear the yell / Back to school / ring the bell.” We can tell why White picked that song and not, say, “Icky Thump.”

We’re Not Going To Be Friends is set to drop on 11/7, perfect for school kids. (Or their more rock-leaning parents.) Every book comes with a copy of the song, and also new covers by April March and The Woodstation Elementary School Singers. The package comes courtesy of Third Man Books — breaking new ground for White’s Third Man enterprises.
