This is when Mercury Retrograde ends in December, aka the most wonderful time of the year
Okay, okay, we know it’s everywhere. It’s on your Instagram, it’s on your Facebook, it’s even right here: Mercury Retrograde is coming! For three weeks, starting on December 3rd, we get to worry about our electronics breaking, our travel plans being delayed, and our exes reminding us they’re still alive. And don’t you dare sign a contract or important paperwork. The truth is, Mercury Retrograde isn’t *actually* that big of a deal. Yes, it can mess stuff up, but it’s really a reminder to slow down and have a plan B. Thankfully, Mercury Retrograde ends on December 23rd, so we don’t have to worry about it too long.
So…what is Mercury Retrograde anyway?
Mercury rules over communication, travel, and technology. Usually, the planet spins counterclockwise. But when it goes retrograde, it appears to spin the opposite way, throwing everything it rules over out of whack. Hence communication issues, travel mishaps, and technological crashes.
Mercury goes retrograde around four times a year, and lucky for us, we get to end 2017 with one. But thankfully, we’ll only have to deal with this cosmic phenomenon from December 3rd to 23rd. Yet, that doesn’t mean that things will just go back to normal on the 23rd. Sadly, there’s one more thing to worry about…
Mercury Retrograde’s “shadow period” lasts two weeks before and after its retrograde, and will last until January 11th, 2018.
Once Mercury is out of retrograde, or “stations direct,” we still have to worry about its shadow period. This is when things slowly go back to normal, but we still have to take our Mercury Retrograde precautions because the planet’s energy continues to be a bit wonky. Back your electronics up, try to avoid traveling or booking any travel, avoid signing contracts if you can, don’t start new projects, and always have a backup plan. Taking your time to breathe is especially important during retrograde and the shadow period is vital, as is giving yourself plenty of time when you travel.
Remember, retrograde doesn’t have to be that big of a deal. Being diligent and planning a bit more than usual goes a long way.
