When is the Pink Moon? It’s time to go pink or go home in April

It’s time to think pink, you guys. It seems like we’re in a lunar rainbow of sorts, doesn’t it? On March 31st, the second blue moon in 2018 occurred (the first one was at the end of January). And now we’re awaiting the arrival of April’s full Pink Moon closer to the end of the month. So, when is the Pink Moon?

The Pink Moon’s peak will be on April 29th at 8:58 p.m. EST.

Luckily, this gives us plenty of time to plan our Pink Moon celebration. We’re thinking pink streamers, pink balloons, and perhaps some pink grapefruit cocktails (yeah, that’s a real thing and the recipe is available via foodnetwork.com right here). And of course, those of us who are dedicated to the lunar calendar will be wearing pink all day long, even though the Pink Moon does not fall on a Wednesday. (April 29th is a Sunday.)

Like the blue moon, the Pink Moon is no different in color than any other full moon during the year. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the name comes from Native American tribespeople who called it such because of the blooming of the “moss pink” flower, also called the creeping phlox.

Yes, it would be totally rad if the moon turned pink for one night of the year. But unfortunately, you’ll have to don rose-colored glasses to get that effect.

If pink isn’t your thing, there are other ways to celebrate the arrival of April’s full moon. Other North American tribes called this moon the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon.

You can decorate eggs like you would on Easter, or go hang outside on the front lawn to get a great view of the full Sprouting Grass Moon in action. Or, whip up a yummy fish dinner — the celebration possibilities are endless if you get creative.

Boogie down, Pink Moon party people, and get amped for this month’s color rave. As they say on the moon, go pink or go home.
