All 267 times “The Force” is used in the first six ‘Star Wars’ movies
With Star Wars: The Force Awakens about to open in theaters, you might be asking yourself the hard questions about the saga. Like, so . . . what exactly is the Force? It’s perfectly fine if in your mind the Force is some mythical thing that doesn’t really make sense. That’s kinda what it is on-screen, too.
It’s best to let wise Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi explain it for real. In A New Hope, he describes the Force to Luke Skywalker as, “what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.” And still, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Maybe the Force is something that needs to be seen, and not explained.
Thankfully, there’s now a video that can show us exactly that. Our friends at Burger Fiction have painstakingly edited together every single time the Force is mentioned, discussed, used, and felt, from Phantom Menace all the way through Return of the Jedi. It is a most impressive 12-minute video. They’ve also done it in chronological order, so we see it at its height with Jedi Knights, and slowly fade away until Luke learns to use his powers.
The final Force tally? It’s used 267 times throughout the course of the movies. That number’s sure to increase after the release of Force Awakens, but for now, this is just what we need for a Force refresher. If you’re ready to see ALL the times it’s used, check out the video below. And may the Force be with you.
