It’s here! We’ve got a ‘Supergirl’ first look!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO it’s Supergirl SAVING a plane in the first full-length trailer for the brand new fall show!
Finally, after following Supergirl from its initial development, through its casting process, and joyously celebrating when it was picked up to series, we have a 6-minute look at what we’ll get to see when Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) flies our way come fall. She’s just a regular girl like you and me, working a job she doesn’t particularly like, freaking out about what to wear on a blind date, except for, oh yeah, that whole flying thing.
The trailer sets up what we’ll see happen in the pilot episode. After saving the day for the first time ever, Kara doesn’t want to go back to hiding her superpowers from the world; she wants to help people and make a difference. After being nicknamed “Supergirl” by the media, she protests the moniker and asks her boss, Cat Grant (played SO PERFECTLY by Calista Flockhart), why she can’t be “Superwoman” instead.
“What do you think is so bad about girl?” Cat asks Kara, “I’m a girl, and your boss, and powerful, and rich, and hot, and smart. So if you perceive Supergirl as anything less than excellent, isn’t the problem you?” And then I realized I was cheering out loud along with the trailer, and I may have fist-pumped into the air I was so excited. Yes, Supergirl is already excellent, and this trailer proves it.
We also get to meet Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and Winslow Schlott (Jeremy Jordan), who helps Kara with her costume. And even though everyone keeps talking about her well-known cousin, Superman, he’s nowhere to be seen. That’s perfectly fine, because Kara’s bulletproof and more than capable to save the day herself, thank you very much.
Supergirl will premiere this November on CBS. YAAAAASSSSSS.
