“Westworld” just confirmed a major actor is coming back for Season 2 — doesn’t look like anything to me

The Season 1 finale of Westworld answered some major, burning questions (like, what door?), and also raised so many more — like what’s going to happen once the dust settles, and Dolores’ massacre actions finally set in? But even more pressing than that, now that we know we’re dealing with two timelines, what’s going to happen in the past between William — aka the future Man in Black — and robotic Dolores? At first Jimmi Simpson, who played William in Season 1, said he wouldn’t be back for Season 2. And now…

Well, this whole thing doesn’t look like anything to me. But maybe it looks like something to you?

Talking at a panel during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Simpson confirmed that he’s not completely gone from the park just yet.

“I mean, yeah, I pop in, he explained, but does not elaborate on just how or why he pops in. “I wish there was exploration between the time when William's heart was broken and we see the result. I want to know how much it takes and how hard he tried to not go there. But I don’t write the story.

This all seems to imply that we’re not going to see William’s transformation into the Man in Black, so maybe that’s something to save for Westworld Season 2, or the first Westworld spin-off someone dreams up (this is a good idea, William transformation spin-off, you can have this idea for free, HBO).

However William comes back, and for however long, we’re excited to see him back in his cowboy getup, and trying to win over Dolores’ mechanical heart. Though HBO hasn’t set a return date for Westworld, it’s believed that the series will take the place of Game of Thrones this year, and is expected to air sometime late spring/early summer. We’ll be waiting, mazes in hand.
