Jimmi Simpson figured out his big ~twist~ in “Westworld” forever ago — because of his eyebrows

The season finale of Westworld confirmed a theory — and twist— we had kinda guessed all along: William (Jimmi Simpson) and the Man in Black (Ed Harris) are the same person. William is living out his Westworld adventure some 30 years before the MIB strolls into town and starts causing a ruckus. Viewers have been picking up on the show’s subtle clues for the last few episodes, and while we probably think WE’RE really smart for figuring this out, Jimmi is even smarter. He figured out the show’s big twist long ago, and did so a pretty odd way.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jimmi spills on all sorts of secrets on set, and how waaaaaaaaay before he was supposed to know, he correctly guessed that there were two Williams out there in Westworld. Not having seen the show himself (obviously, it wasn’t on HBO yet), and not knowing how the rest of the season played out (since he hadn’t yet read all the scripts) he couldn’t help but wonder why his makeup artist was plucking his eyebrows.

“I was with [my] amazing makeup artist, Christian, and he was looking at my face too much,” Jimmi explains. “He had me in his chair, and he was just looking at my face, and then he said something about my eyebrows. ‘Would you be cool if we just took a couple hairs out of your eyebrows, made them not quite as arched?’”

“I was like, ‘Why would they change my eyebrows? Why in the world?’ I started thinking the one reason was to make me look like someone else, and then I cycled through the Rolodex of the main players. There’s only one that really fit my look and dialect.”

With this idea in his head, Jimmi couldn’t help but ask if his hunch was correct.

“I just said to showrunner Lisa [Joy], ‘Am I supposed to be Ed Harris?’ She just froze and said, ‘I can‘t say anything, but I will say you have a hell of an arc this season.’”

Well, that’s pretty impressive. Guessing a big finale ~twist~ because of a few plucked eyebrows? Jimmi, if you’re available, we’d love for you to watch Westworld Season 2 with us next year.
