‘The West Wing’ Cast Is Reuniting for the First Time in 17 Years
They'll be performing an iconic (and appropriate) episode.
The cast of The West Wing wants us all to vote in the upcoming November presidential election, and to drive home their message, they’re reuniting for the first time in 17 years. According to a Deadline report, Aaron Sorkin has teamed up with HBO Max to present A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote, which will feature former West Wing cast members Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe, Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff, and Bradley Whitford.
A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote will feature a performance of “Hartfield’s Landing,” the Season 3 episode in which President Barlet (Sheen) faces off against Sam (Lowe) and Toby (Schiff) in a game of chess while Josh (Whitford) waits anxiously for 42 votes from a tiny New Hampshire town—votes that will predict the winner of the New Hampshire primary.
The cast and creator of The West Wing have been planning an eventual reunion for a while now.
Deadline reports that Schiff hinted at a reunion in June to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Instead, their reunion will benefit the Michelle Obama co-chaired organization When We All Vote, “a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that is on a mission to increase participation in every election.”
WarnerMedia, which produced the original West Wing series, will make a donation to When We All Vote, and Michelle Obama is slated to make an appearance during the HBO Max special.
A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote will begin shooting in October at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. Aaron Sorkin is writing exclusive material for the special, and Thomas Schlamme will direct.
This will be the first televised reunion between former cast members in 17 years, though they’ve met up at various other non-televised events throughout the last decade. The special will air before the November election and, with Sorkin at the helm, we have no doubt the event will be witty, nostalgic, and something you won’t want to miss.
