This restaurant is selling a “Black Olives Matter” shirt, and the internet is NOT okay with it
So, it seems that the ridiculousness of our world knows no bounds, so we have to talk about this nonsense. Namely, that a restaurant was so happy to piss people off with their “Black Olives Matter” sign that they took it one (or like, a dozen) step further, because what better way to deal with criticism than to seriously fan the fire? COME ON, GUYS.
The restaurant, Paisano’s has become internet infamous for their shirts reading “Black Olives Matter.”
Like, whaaaat? Who thought that was a good idea?
It all started with a sign. When the sign, reading “Black Olives Matter,” pissed people off, owner Rick Camuglia decided to turn it into merch. We are so baffled right now. false
The restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico co-opted the Black Lives Matter slogan to sell shirts, and people are not happy.
Seeing Black Olives Matter trending has me understanding how little so many really care. We have to stop expecting outside acknowledgment.

Probably because the actual, real movement is heated enough without people using it as a means to capitalize off of it… but that’s none of our business.
The goal of the shirt, according to KOAT 7, is to sell “a tuna dish with black olive tapenade.”
This literally couldn’t be any weirder. Like, way to trivialize a super important issue to sell a fish dish. We just seriously cannot even right now, you guys.
Of course, some people think the phrase is *great* because they may not understand just how disrespectful it is.
“People have filled the restaurant and told us to leave up the sign,” Camuglia said. “That’s great, you know, because a lot of people make a living off working for this restaurant.”
We’re all for supporting businesses and for supporting workers, but come on. There has to be a better way. Clearly they need some new creative minds at this restaurant, and someone who knows how to make an apology.
